A Polson Enterprises Web Site
This site has been prepared to brief the general public and to provide a starting point for researchers examining the events of that day, Saturday 14 December 1996, when the Bright Field freighter / bulk cargo vessel slammed into the Riverwalk Mall on Poydras Street Wharf in New Orleans. The site assisted the U.S. Coast Guard and NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) during their investigations and was and continues to be used by many legal and corporate groups involved in the litigation surrounding the crash. The prime owners of the vessel, Clearsky Shipping Company and COSCO (China Ocean Shipping Company) of Hong Kong should also find the site useful. We welcome the many employed in or following the maritime industry who are visiting this site. Additionally, many maritime law school students are following the case and we hope to eventually turn it into a case study site.
For those requiring additional information, we provide extensive research services surrounding the Bright Field incident as Polson Enterprises.
Some issues raised by the crash include: flag of convenience ships, public developments on the riverfront, harbor safety, communication / language problems, the relationships between pilots, captains, and crews, the need for vessel traffic systems, frequency of ships loosing steering, frequent testing of alarms on cruise ships at the pier was like "calling wolf", riverboat gambling boat safety, safety of the Algiers Landing restaurant, inability to hear voice commands over the alarms, and can safety devices cause accidents.
