For those not familiar with annotations, a particular case is discussed, then the actual annotation begins. Per a legal student guide an ALR annotation is "a complete statement of all the case law on a given point. A precise, current and authoritative treatise that is the quickest way to all the law within the scope of the subject matter." It is a very extensive legal treatment of this specific field, typically citing and discussing dozens to hundreds of cases. ALR stands for American Law Reporter. It has been printed in various editions through time. You need to find either the Federal edition or the specific edition listed, then the leading number is the volume number, and the last number is the page number. Note - the specific case which is the subject of the annotation is summarized before the page on which the annotation begins.
